The Mayan civilization used a series of calendars to track time and events.  The 260 day Tzolkin was combined with the year long Haab to form a cycle of 52 years, and the cycle repeated.  To track events on a longer time scale, the Mayans used the Long Count Calendar.  This Long Count ends on December 21, 2012.
